Programs: XL Reports, 26 September, 2009Chance for a family? How to best settle the problem of abandoned children? To build orphanages for them, or find adoptive parents? It’s even fashionable now to adopt a child, especially if you are rich. But in the Russian village of Kitezh, people are not rich. They’ve even given up the perks of civilization, but they have invented a new type of adoption: Anyone who wishes to live in Kitezh -- both those who want to adopt a child and those who themselves want to be adopted -- has to go through a probation period. You have to earn the right to be called a mother, a father, a son or a daughter. Kitezh families prepare the orphans for real life. Children here are educated through work in the community. |
