Aeroflot eyes European takeovers

Published 30 October, 2007, 17:14

Aeroflot says it is interested in buying Czech national carrier Czech Airlines.

Speaking to Reuters, a spokesperson for Russia's biggest airline said Aeroflot was interested in the European market as a whole, and Czech Airlines in particular.

Aeroflot will decide before November 10 on whether to participate in a tender for Italy's Alitalia, Aeroflot President Valery Okulov said on Tuesday.

The Italian government owns almost half of Alitalia, of which a minimum of 40% was to be sold this summer.

But the sale was cancelled in mid-July after the last remaining bidder rejected the terms of the sell-off.
