Published 17 December, 2007, 10:17

Since the launch of the national agriculture project in 2005, investment in the development of the sector in Russia has tripled. Traditionally vital areas like the milk and meat industries have increased output. Milk production is up by 4.5%, and meat by 14%.

The national priority project grants loans for small and micro agricultural businesses. The total sum to be invested will total $US44 billion.

“We are launching a large-scale, five year state programme to develop agriculture. More than one trillion roubles will be allocated from the federal and regional budgets to the sector,” promised Russian Minister of Agriculture Aleksey Gordeev.
