Will Siberia survive without coal?

In Russia’s coal heartland in Western Siberia’s Kemerovo, party politics in Moscow is often seen as a gaudy sideshow. And personal perceptions trump political ideals. Mineral resources account for more than half of the region’s GDP, but changes are needed as most of the mines are exhausted and will last only another 50 years.
