Former Beslan hostages head for judo tournament in Japan

Students from the Beslan school seized by terrorists in 2004 are travelling to Japan to take part in an international martial arts competition. Parents say after the Beslan tragedy their children tried out different sports but always gave up after a short time. So it was a surprise to many when a group of boys took up judo and persevered.
On September 1, 2004, a group of terrorists seized school number one in Beslan in the republic of North Ossetia, locking more than 1,100 hostages in the gymnasium.
Among the 333 hostages that lost their lives were nearly 200 children. More than 700 others were injured.
