Published 19 February, 2008, 05:51

Armenians go to the polls on Tuesday to choose the country's third president. There are nine candidates. The current Prime Minister and the head of the ruling Armenian Republican party, Serj Sarkisyan, is considered favourite to win the election.

Fifteen thousand observers from local and international monitoring agencies will be present at the polls.

A high turnout is likely, with more than two million people expected to cast their vote.
