A 14-year-old boy has made his debut in the Columbian football championship.

Luis Mauricio Alarcon appeared in the starting line up of his club, Independente from Santa Fe, but was substituted after only 38 seconds.

Santa Fe team coach Hernan Dario Gomez let the youngster play in order to attract attention to the problem of age requirements in Columbian football where only players over 18 years old are allowed to play in the local league.

Before starting a coaching career, Gomez was an agent who made his living on footballers’ transfers.

In other countries, age regulations are not as strict as in Columbia. For example, the youngest player to appear in the English Premier league was Reuben Noble-Lazarus. He was 15 years and 45 days old when he played for Barnsley against Ipswich Town last year.
