Referee beats up coach during friendly match

It appears a red card is not the harshest punishment in football. The referee of a friendly in the Spanish city of El Puig has severely beaten up the misbehaving coach of an away team, El Mundo newspaper reports.

The incident happened close to the end of the game, when the visitors were 1-0 up. The Burjassot coach, was questioning all of the 20-year-old ref’s decisions during the match, but after another blow of his whistle, he called the arbiter an “ass”.
And that’s when the man in black lost his cool. He approached Cuesta, intending to take the red card out of his pocket, but then he swore and head-butted him.
The man fell unconscious, the Burjassot coach’s assistant remembered, but the referee continued assaulting him.
The match was stopped and the referee was arrested by the police.
Burjassot team will appeal for a life-long ban from football for the referee. And Cuesta is preparing a lawsuit against him.
And it’s not the first time this umpire has used his fists instead of his whistle. Last year he attacked a footballer and his father during a match between youth teams.
