The Williams sisters will play their 8th Grand Slam final against each other after beating Russian Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina in Wimbledon semis.
Elena Dementieva and Serena Williams were the first to come out in Center Court at the all-England Club, where they produced one of the tightest games of the entire tennis season.
The Russian broke her rival in the very first game, but later allowed Williams to come back into the match. After that, both player were faultless on their serves and the opening set ended in a predictable tie-break which Dementieva won 7-4.
In the second set, Serena got a break early on, but Dementieva leveled to score, only to lose her serve again and drop the set 5-7. The Russian was able to convert just one break point out of seven.
And Dementieva had her chance for her third career Grand Slam final, when the score was 5-4 on Williams’ serve. But a powerful backhand volley from the American leveled the score. And it was all over in just three games 6-8.
Serena’s elder sister Venus Williams needed just 51 minutes to thrash World Champion Dinara Safina.
The American produced some great tennis. She’s made just one unforced error and let her opponent take just one game, to triumph 6-1 6-0.
