Renault satisfied with Petrov’s performance in Germany

On Sunday, Russian driver Vitaly Petrov finished in 10th position at the German Grand Prix to score points for Renault – a result which seems to have satisfied both Petrov and the Renault bosses.

“I am satisfied by this race, because our tempo was very high and I tried to be faster than Mercedes,” Petrov said after the race.

“I feel absolutely comfortable in Renault, and the team is very friendly like a family. Everybody helps me here and I don’t see any better team for me now,” he added.

Meanwhile, Renault team boss Eric Boullier confessed that on Sunday Petrov did more “than the team expected.”

“His qualifying pace was a bit down compared with [Robert Kubica’s] – he made a mistake in one corner and he was very angry with himself. But his pace was good for most of the lap compared with Robert's,” Boullier told autosport.com.

“The race was just brilliant – you can't say any more that that – he matched Kubica's pace. He was consistent and pushed when we asked him to push for strategic reasons to make sure that we passed the Williams cars and Kobayashi. He did very well,” Boullier said.

“We have recently asked him to score points and raise his game, and he did that. Now he has to do it every weekend. And if he does, he has a great future in Formula 1,” the Renault boss added.
