Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has produced a brilliant qualifying performance to secure pole position for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, ahead of team-mate Mark Webber.
The German set a fastest lap of 1m 18. 773s to beat Webber by over four tenths of a second. Thus, Vettel beat Michael Schumacher’s record and set the fastest lap time at the Hungaroring in its modern history.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was a massive 1.214 seconds back in third. His team-mate Felipe Massa completed the second row to consolidate Ferrari's status as the second fastest package of the weekend.
Lewis Hamilton managed to grab fifth in an underperforming McLaren, while Jenson Button failed to make it into the final part of qualifying and will start 11th.
It has been a perfect weekend for Renault’s Vitaly Petrov. The Russian finished seventh, just behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes, and managed to beat team-mate Robert Kubica’s qualifying time for the first time this season.
