Denis Bolotsky is an RT correspondent, covering events in Southern Russia. He is based in Sochi – the country’s 2014 Winter Olympics capital.

Denis has reported live on a range of international and domestic stories for the channel, including the first anniversary of the Beslan school siege, the terrorist attack in Nalchik in October 2005, the Pulkovo airlines crash in Donetsk in August 2006. He has covered events in Chechnya, Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as well as China, Southeast Asia and the U.S.

“For a journalist, there’s always a need to be open-minded and respectful towards other people’s faiths and lifestyles. One day you get to visit a mosque in Grozny, the next week you’re in a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, and a few days later you’re filming a story about the heathen New Year celebration in Abkhazia.”

Denis is also the author of several feature stories on Russian politics, history and current events.

Born in Russia, he studied journalism in his home country, as well as in the Netherlands and in the U.S. Denis is fluent in English and Dutch.

“I like being a correspondent because it gives me the opportunity to travel; to see for myself, and to share with the audience, the impressions I get from these journeys and events”

Denis began his career in journalism in 1994 at a college FM radio station in the United States. He then went on to work for local TV channels in Southern Russia – Kuban TV and NTK, broadcasting to an audience of over 5 million.

Before joining RT, Denis gained experience in many areas, including news editing, production, presenting and reporting.

“Joining the RT team has become an important frontier for me. It’s a great honour to be among Russian journalists addressing an international audience and it’s also been a great challenge since 2005, when it all started, it was something totally new for most of us.”
