Kevin Owen is an award-winning news anchor for RT with more than 25 years experience in news broadcasting in television and radio.

Since he joined RT five years ago, Kevin has handled many of the channel’s biggest news stories: from the St. Petersburg G8 Summit, the 2008 war in the Caucasus, the Russian presidential elections, the tragic death of the Polish president in a plane crash, to the news that Russia is to host the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2018 World Cup – and the elation that came with securing those highlights of the sporting calendar. The tragedy, the event, the joy, Kevin’s been at the heart of relaying the stories that shape the globe to RT’s worldwide audience.

In September 2008, Kevin was honoured to be awarded with a TEFI – one of Russia's most-prestigious broadcasting awards – for Best News Anchor.  He is the only foreign national ever to receive the honor, which was presented by the Russian Television Academy at a Kremlin Palace ceremony in Moscow.

Kevin came to Moscow from Sky News in London and the BBC’s World Service. He says, “RT is a great place to work. We've got a really professional news team and our service is becoming a household name as more and more people are able to receive us through the multitude of platforms we’re now available on.”

“And for me, the icing on the cake is that, day in day out, I genuinely enjoy what I do – despite the weird hours we all have to work to keep the news on air 24/7,” he says.

Kevin’s early career involved fronting the BBC Wales nightly news programme Wales Today and later anchoring four other British commercial TV stations’ flagship news shows. Kevin has a post-graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University.

Gardening, house renovations and DIY keep Kevin busy when he’s not in the studio or on location.
