Lucy Kafanov is a senior producer and studio anchor in RT’s Washington DC bureau.

In addition to her on-air analysis, Lucy helps to drive RT's national and international news coverage – highlighting the many social and political stories and issues left uncovered by the mainstream media.

Prior to joining RT, Lucy was a political reporter covering the 2008 Presidential Election for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, a nightly news program on PBS. Lucy helped to develop the NewsHour's political coverage; from the latest legislative developments on Capitol Hill, to the Inauguration of President Obama and the launch of a new White House administration. The job took her from the halls of Congress, where she produced numerous interviews with top lawmakers, to the crowded convention halls in Denver and St. Paul, where Lucy helped produce the NewsHour's live coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

Lucy's intimate knowledge of Washington politics and policy allowed her to develop her journalism career across several media. She spent several years as a congressional reporter on Capitol Hill for Greenwire – Washington’s premier political newswire and daily on environment and energy policy. Lucy also worked as a radio reporter and producer for various international radio clients, including Voice of America, Deutsche Welle Radio, SABC, Vatican Radio, Radio New Zealand and Voice of Nigeria.

Lucy received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The George Washington University.

The daughter of two artists, Lucy enjoys painting, yoga and hiking during the little free time that she has.
