Recently Martyn filmed in Paris, London, Rome and Florence highlighting Russian cultural and historic connections for a series of special programs. Future destinations include Berlin, Tel Aviv and New York, a summer/winter series on Sochi and a four part adventure on the Trans-Siberian Express.
Martyn originally set up and presented the live studio show Entertainment Today for three years, along with the cookery show Culinary Quest (one of the channel’s first programs) and hosted the live coverage from the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow – all on RT. A wide selection of Martyn's programs from RT have also been broadcast on Euronews, RTCY, Arirang TV, the high-speed Sapsan train network in Russia and most recently RT's new documentary channel RTD and Aeroflot's longhaul in-flight service.
Martyn was born in Liverpool, England, and is a professionally-trained broadcast journalist, presenter, actor and singer. He has a BA (hons) degree in Acting and Performance and has appeared in lead roles in several professional musicals and major theater productions in the UK and Europe. Martyn has visited over 550 cities and towns around the world, is a food and restaurant critic and is used as a travel and culinary expert for various magazines and TV networks around the world.
Before moving to Russia, Martyn was based out of New York, traveling the world as host and producer of the award-winning documentary series My Abyss. He trained for months to become an extended-range deep-sea diver, taking him to such locations as Florida, Bermuda, Thailand, Australia, Israel and various other exotic marine locations, showing him successfully completing some of the world's deadliest dive sites.
He has written, produced and presented several television shows on a number of networks, both in the UK and abroad. Some of the highlights have been the BBC's Songs of Praise, a UK-based live magazine chat show Lounge Living TV and an adventure TV series Undiscovered Egypt, filming all over North Africa and finding out the truth behind the Pyramids.
Martyn has been at RT since its launch in 2005, co-presenting the channel's first ever hour on-air, and loves living in Moscow – even when it is minus 27C! As Martyn says:
"People just don't realize how amazing Moscow and other Russian cities are. Russia boasts a staggering history and is an endless world of cultural opportunities. Moscow has some of the best ballet, opera, nightclubs and restaurants in the world. In two words – Russia Rocks!”
