Tom Barton is a news correspondent for RT.
Since he joined in November 2008 he's covered stories from the length and breadth of Russia, the former Soviet Union and further afield.
From the overthrow of the President of Kyrgyzstan, to the Moscow metro bombings of 2010, and the miraculous crash landing of a Russian passenger jet Tom was there breaking the latest news.
He’s investigated attempts to help Russian drug addicts through rehab, detailed the build up and blast off of Russian space program missions, followed the struggle for justice for a Latvian war veteran, and told the story of an ex-Russian missile defence colonel who could well have averted world war three. He’s even been to a separatist part of Moldova that was celebrating its independence anniversary despite barely anyone in the world considering it a country!
He’s also traveled to the depths of the forests of northern Russia to examine life there with RT’s Close Up team.
Tom gained a BA Honours in War Studies from Kings College London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University.
He’s worked for the BBC in television documentaries and as a radio journalist for both the BBC and commercial radio in Britain before heading east to Russia.
Tom is a keen history enthusiast and reader and enjoys sports from football to paintball. Being a farmer’s son from Lincolnshire in England he’s always loved agriculture and the great outdoors, and is ever hungry for a fresh adventure.
