Yulia Shapovalova is a news anchor and correspondent at RT.

Yulia’s reports cover a wide range of subjects, from political issues to technological innovations, from social concerns to medical breakthroughs. She has given special attention to issues such as AIDS, xenophobia, racism and child welfare, producing special reports on all of these.

One of Yulia’s projects involved explaining the customs and traditions of people living on the vast territories of Russia to an international audience

Since joining RT shortly after its launch in 2005, Shapovalova has interviewed many of Russia's most prominent figures from all spheres of life, including former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, former Russian Prime Minister Evgeny Primakov, Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov, Duma deputies, Russian writers, show business personalities, fashion designers and many others.

She has anchored many important news stories such as the Russian Presidential elections in March 2008, the outbreak of war in South Ossetia in August 2008 and Russia’s victorious bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Before breaking into the news business, Yulia worked as a public affairs manager for the Russian energy giant “LUKOIL.”

Yulia graduated from the State University of Saratov, obtaining a degree in English Language and Foreign and Russian Literature. She is also a graduate of The Russian Academy of Civil Service and The First National Institute of Television.
