Overview

The most legendary Russian salad known in a number of varieties across the globe.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • 1 big chicken breast baked in an oven (no spice, no salt)
  • Salt, pepper, mayonnaise
  • 1 average-size carrot, boiled (do not peel before boiling) (optional)
  • 5 average-size potatoes, boiled (do not peel before boiling)
  • 3 nice pickled cucumbers
  • 4 boiled eggs (those do not need pre-peeling for sure)
  • 1 can green peas (optional)

Cooking

Just cut every ingredient mentioned into small cubes (well, obviously, since we've touched upon the issue… peel eggs, potatoes, and carrots before you do this!), add pepper, salt, and plenty of mayonnaise. Mix well. This salad is the must-have dish on a Russian New Year table.

TIP:

When you cut pickles into this salad, do not forget to squeeze off all the unnecessary liquid. Russians use a different type of mayo - it is sharper in taste as it includes some bitter mustard. In some families people add a chopped green apple to the mix, but this is not common.
