As for the Mozart murder theory, that is amateurish nonsense with no shred of proof. The fact is Salieri was a highly successful composer -- wealthier and more respected than Mozart at the time. He had no reason to be jealous of Mozart. 

Cec ilia Bartoli released a CD called The Salieri Album -- it gives a pretty good impression of what a talented operatist Salieri in fact was.

th at's a very good point in your first paragraph. Vienna became Salieri's city for his life's work basically, so why would italy want him back - because he was "born" italian? . 
 one thing to recognize of course is -- salieri's own work IS italianate, nevertheless, being that it was still quite the "rage" in europe especially in vocal works...
which is why Mozart himself, although Austrian and "germanic" in origin also was known as the greatest composer of the "italian style" in those days -- simply because of mozart's genius (such as with his Le Nozze di Figaro with its amazing sextet finale of the second act, or Don Giovanni, etc,) as opposed to his "germanic style" for "The Magic Flute". 
of course obviously successful and fine a composer Salieri was - the Stature of Mozart much above Salieri is really undisputable. 
a ll one has to do is listen to their respective "requiems" ....or pick just about any mature piano concerto (27 altogether with the ones from 17 and up simply excellent works) of mozart against Salieri's single concerto. 
they each have their deserved "respect" for all eternity - but both certainly were "viennese" musicians. italian born or not.

If he did indeed poison Mozart, which is very likely. Dig him up and ship him out. Could be useful for glue or something.
