Austrian authorities have refused to return the remains of Italian composer Antonio Salieri to his birthplace. According to legend Salieri was jealous of his great rival Mozart, to the point of poisoning him.
"Salieri belongs to the music history of Vienna", a spokesperson of the city's Culture Agency told Austria’s 'Oesterreich' newspaper adding that returning the body of Salieri, who is buried in Vienna's central cemetery Zentralfriedhof, is "pretty unlikely".
The head of the committee of the town of the Italian’s birthplace Verona is expected to make a formal request to Austrian authorities for the return of the remains of Salieri who died in 1825.
"We haven’t forgotten the previous unsuccessful attempts and know that the path to bring Salieri back home will be long," Franco Bozzolin told L'Arena.
