The names of Renee Fleming and Placido Domingo are not featured on this opera’s program, but those who come to listen couldn’t care less. An opera aimed at children aged from new-borns to three-years old has been making waves in Europe.
‘Korall Koral’ is the brainchild of the Norwegian composer Maja Ratkje, who is known for her vocal experiments.
Many of those who make it to the show can’t help themselves, as they have to be carried in by their mothers for the simple reason they’re not yet walking.

But once everyone takes their seats, there is nothing to worry about. There’s no linear plot to follow in the opera that is first and foremost an exciting musical game, spiced up with a twist of humor.

“In this opera babies and adults have equal qualifications. There is nothing to be explained or understood,” the description to the opera reassures.

Given there’s a child in all of us, when the 20-minute performance is over, the children and adults are invited to explore the auditorium and instruments. Both mothers and babies can’t get enough.
