Moscow has received the honor of hosting the official world premiere of the 2011 edition of the world-famous Pirelli annual calendar “for adults”.
One of the world’s leading fashion designers, Karl Lagerfeld, the creator behind this year’s project, has come to Moscow to unveil the calendar before the world. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, featuring star models and popular French writer and Karl Lagerfeld’s personal friend, Frederic Beigbeder, as a host of the ceremony.
Each year Pirelli appoints celebrity photographers, artists and designers to work on their world-famous calendar. Its history dates back to the 1960s, each year celebrating beauty, creativity, style and design.
Working on this project Karl Lagerfeld focused his attention on Greek Mythology. The 36 shots that have entered the calendar feature 24 characters including Athena, Aphrodite and Hera, Orpheus, Hermes, Ares and Achilles.
Models for the projects were carefully selected by Maestro Lagerfeld personally to fit his idea. Among them are Daria Werbowy, Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Bianca Balti, Lara Stone and others. One of the images, of the goddess Hera, stars American actress Julianne Moore.
Apart from fragile ladies, Lagerfeld also included several images with men into the calendar, which is a rarity in Pirelli calendar’s history.
