One of Russia’s most promising singers, Alsou, has been made a “UNESCO Artist for Peace” at a festive ceremony in Paris.
The 28-year-old Tatar beauty has therefore joined other prominent artists who spread the message across the world promoting programs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Alsou has won accolades for her commitment to help the most vulnerable people across the world, as well as her charitable activities aiming to empower childhood development, and her dedication to the ideals and aims of the organization.
When the mother of two is not performing on stage, Alsou is busy working for her Rainbow Foundation, which helps restore schools, hospitals, churches, mosques and supports the less-fortunate people around the world.
Singing in Russian and English, the ambitious bilingual musician gained international recognition when she was 15 years old, with the release of her debut album, Alsou.
In 2001, Alsou won the Best Russian Singer MTV-Europe Music Award. She has collaborated and recorded albums with artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Bon Jovi and Nelly.
Among UNESCO’s Artists for Peace is Canadian singer Celine Dion, Spanish dancer Joaquín Cortés, Cameroonian musician Manu Dibango, Iraqi-born British architect Zaha Hadid and Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil.

When beauty is combined with a worthy purposeful life then it is an aesthetic gift. However, when it’s used as a commodity for itself- as in fashion modeling- then it becomes ugly. This beautiful young woman provides better a model for young Russian girls than those always nearly naked fashion models.

Citizen K, I always thought that fashion world was a punishment for vanity. They starve the models for their greed. I knew someone that worked for models, and she said they would eat cotton balls and do drugs to drive away their demons. I don't necessarily believe that they should be highlighted as the heroes of our age, however, because everyone does what they can really. Even simple acts of kindness matter. The Qur'an says to do your charity in the night. I agree.
