Celebrated opera diva Anna Netrebko plans to sing at the opening and/or closing ceremonies of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, near her native Krasnodar, the artist revealed in an interview with RT.

­Her other future artistic plans include debuting in a production of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin that is to be staged in New York:

"It's a beautiful role, a famous opera, which will take lots of work and preparation from me, but I look forward to it."

Netrebko’s newest work – a staging of Gaetano Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, with her singing the title role at the New-York Metropolitan opera – will be shown in movie theaters around the world in October, and Netrebko hailed the introduction of high-definition recording to opera:

"I think with the technological possibilities today, with all the 12 cameras flying around, with the amazing sound, we really can bring the opera to a wider audience at a higher level. Though in my opinion, bringing opera to the screen is never easy."

Perhaps that is the reason why, despite appearing in a dozen televised operas, she did not have plans to try her luck in Hollywood.

“I like to watch movies, but I would never switch my career. I love what I am doing. I mean, I might appear in a movie about opera or something else I am working on, but never play in a movie just to do it.”

Asked if the constant attention from the media has a distracting effect on her, Netrebko said it only adds to her concentration and dedication to her art.

"I think to be a good opera singer, you have to able to omit the rest of the world from what you have to do at this exact moment and be free of complexes during your performance, and to do so you have to be strong."
