Boney M's "King of Disco" Bobby Farrell has died in a hotel in St. Petersburg in Russia where he arrived to give a performance.
The 61-year-old musician made a name for himself as a Caribbean sailor-turned-DJ-turned-dancer-musician, and a member of the legendary disco band, Boney M.
After the split of the group in 1986, Farrell's kinetic energy and a passion for music enabled him to pursue a solo career of 15 years.
“I want my music to make people feel good and to create sweet memories. The energy in my music has no limit,” Farrell was quoted as saying.
“I want people to feel entertained and to hear the love that I have for creating music, translated into my songs."
Boney M’s music has been popular in Russia for many years, with their version of “Sunny” still stirring dance floor action today.
It is not clear yet what caused Farrell’s death.
