American vocal wonder Bobby MсFerrin, the author of the all-time hit "Don't Worry, Be Happy", came to Moscow to stage a unique improv opera with a group of world-famous musicians.

Music, especially jazz, always has something innovative and spicy to offer if a talented person takes the lead. This production has never been an opera in its traditional understanding – no scenery, no costumes, no orchestra – only human voice makes the things happen, while the singers involved in the show hardly know each other…

"The libretto, the movement, the music that comes out is all pretty much determined in the three days of rehearsal that we have. That's pretty much the nature of improv," McFerrin says about the upcoming a cappella opera “Bobble.”

"This project is put together around the idea of the beginning of cultures, the beginning of languages. Basically what we've done is we've taken the 11th chapter of Genesis, which is the story of the Tower of Babel and the confusion of languages, and used it as the point of departure for the exploration of different cultures and different languages."

"We had to gather people, to connect their talents, their ideas, to find common interest and start improvising with it all," he added.

He burst onto the a cappella scene in the 1980s, and since then has become a 10-time Grammy award winner.

McFerrin developed the improv genre into a cult. The premiere of “Bobble” took place in New York in April 2009. In each country he brings “Bobble” to, he searches for vocalists on the spot and every time presents a new show.

For the Moscow incarnation, McFerrin has selected some local artists already familiar to Russian audiences. Among them are Nino Katamadze, Sergey Starostin and Pelageya.

The stunning show will be held in the Moscow International House of Music on January 25 and 26.
