An exhibition dedicated to one of Russia’s greatest playwrights, Anton Chekhov, has opened its doors in Moscow, marking the 150th anniversary of the author’s birth.
Entitled “An Unfinished Play”, the exhibition revolves around the life of the writer portraying him as the main character of his own play.
However, Chekhov is by no means the sole person featured at the exhibition. The celebrated author of “The Seagull”, “Three Sisters” and “The Cherry Orchard” is joined by members of his family and friends, plus various artists who turned to Chekhov’s works.
The overall idea of the exhibition is to focus and expose the lesser-known Anton Chekhov – as a son, as a brother, as an aspiring doctor, as a friend and husband and, of course, as a philosopher.
Over 350 objects are on display at the Exhibition Hall of the Federal State Archives, including Chekhov’s autographs, sketches, essays, letters to fellow writers and rare photographs.
Admirers of Chekhov’s talent will also have a chance to watch several documentary films about the writer, including the recently refurbished 1960 work, “Drama”, with Faina Ranevskaya in the lead.
