The scale of the exhibition, dedicated to the world renowned Christian Dior brand, is on display in Moscow. The retrospective exhibition provides an opportunity to see the evolution of Dior’s style and identity.

The scale of the Dior photo exhibition, opening as part of the “Fashion and Style in photography” festival, is truly impressive: it occupies all four floors of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Gogolevsky Boulevard. The collection of 120 photographs from the archive of the Dior fashion house offers an overview of Dior’s history, representing images from its collections, fashion shows, advertising photos and more.

The history of the fashion house began in 1947 when Christian Dior provoked a revolution in haute couture world, having offered the public a new super-feminine silhouette – a dress with a lengthened skirt and small shoulders. It had completely broken the traditions of practical pre-war fashion and was accepted by the public with delight and enthusiasm.

Ever since, Dior’s looks and collections have always been surprising and admired by both public and fashion critics. Besides clothing, Dior offered clients perfumes, jewelry, footwear, bags, ties, corsets, and gloves – all necessary accessories to complete a perfect image.

Dior launched a significant number of fashion designers of the 20th century, including Yve Saint Laurent, Mark Bolan, Gianfranco Ferre and John Galiano.

Christian Dior, himself, has always kept close connections with outstanding photographers. In the 1940s-1950s, the best photographers of the fashion house were Erwin Blumenfeld, Willy Maywald, John Rawlings, Henry Clark, Robert Randal, and Horst P. Horst. Today, Dior fashion house continues working with modern masters of photo-art.
