The first underground church museum is set to open in Moscow on the territory of the oldest women’s monastery in the Russian capital, Zachatyevsky.
The large, hands-on display promises to feature over a thousand exhibits, including artifacts dating back to the 16th-18th centuries.
According to Russia’s Rossiya Channel, the exhibition area could cover up to 1,000 square meters, with items ranging from huge clay milk jars to gravestones with Byzantine ornaments.
Along with the remains of historic Russian cathedrals, a large part of the display will be formed by the findings of archeologists on the territory of the Zachatyevsky monastery, set up in 1584.
