Canada’s Cirque du Soleil is once again ready to invite their audiences into their charming and mysterious world of fun and fantasy. The European premiere of “Corteo” is set to be held in St. Petersburg next month.
Corteo was first staged in 2005. The new production was prepared specially for the European audience.
The sophisticated plot of the show is based on the dream of a clown who sees his own funeral. “We thought that this character can become a certain force that will move our spectator far away,” the new production’s director Daniele Finzi Pasca told RIA Novosti news agency.
The breathtaking acrobatic acts will give way to theatrical episodes that will make a complete story out of the circus show.
According to Craig Cohon of Cirque du Soleil Rus, St. Petersburg was not a random choice for them.
“St. Petersburg is not Moscow. I think that it is the world capital of culture. ‘Corteo’ reflects the spirit of this city,” Cohon says.
After the premiere in St. Petersburg, the troupe will move to Kazan on August 21. On October 9 the show will finally reach Moscow.
