Museums are always working to keep their displays safe, while showing them off to as many people as possible. Moscow’s new Design Museum has found the perfect solution: its collection will reside in a bomb shelter, and travel on a bus!

The mobile display is being organized by Moscow’s ArtPlay Design Center, World of Buses festival and Cine Fantom film club. The specially equipped bus will tour nearby Russian cities with exhibitions, lectures and master-classes.

The museum’s permanent display, meanwhile, will reside underground, in a former bomb shelter in central Moscow.

The concept for this unusual combination was developed by the Dutch Lava Graphic Design Studio. The project was unveiled on February 10at London Design Week, where it got an enthusiastic reaction.

On Friday, it will get its first airing before a Russian audience at the ArtPlay Center. The museum will open later this year.
