Father Frost, also known as the Russian Santa Claus, has made an unexpected appearance in the center of Moscow, right at the beginning of summer to reward more than 30 children from all across Russia.

The children were the winners of a nationwide painting contest for the best depiction of Father Frost as the symbol of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. 35 paintings were chosen from more than 300 works by children aged 4 to 13.

High-ranking officials from the State Duma, the government and Moscow's administration also took part in the award ceremony.
