Russian football fans can kick up a storm, but now Moscow authorities are setting up a special culture center for the tough guys to cool them off. To avoid violence at footie matches, the new project will channel their energy into the creative realm.

Football fans who often lose their temper during games and violate public order will be invited to the new club to let off steam.

The center will provide grounds for sports including wrestling and boxing, organize special outdoor events and even allow artistically gifted fans to spray graffiti on the walls.

The idea to create a cultural center for football fans came from the Moscow government. The city authorities believe the new center will attract a lot of young fans, and will minimize street violence.

Fans were enthusiastic about the idea. According to Bolshoi Gorod magazine, Spartak-Moscow fan club head Oleg Semyonov said such arts and sports centers “should be open not just for football fans, but for everyone willing to reveal their inner talents.”

The new center is set to open soon on the premises of an old cinema in Moscow.

Moscow should closely study the strategy used by Anzhi football club. This is the formula all Russian football clubs must copy: focus on building community oriented atmosphere. I like the Anzhi’s trumpet player whose sole job is to play Russia’s anthem at the opening of the Anzhi games! Also like the club’s focus on showcasing the traditional culture of Dagestan.
