From high politics to photography

A large-scale exhibition of photographs by former Presidential Aide Sergey Yastrzhembsky has opened in the Russian capital. Over 200 photographs taken from aircrafts and helicopters feature Africa, Europe and Siberia.
Sergey Yastrzhembsky’s fascination with photography started almost 30 years ago, when the young Soviet expert in international law was sent on his first foreign trip to work in Prague. One of the first things Yastrzhembsky bought himself was a Japanese camera.
Making successful career in international politics, Yastrzhembsky spent his free time taking photos and hunting. In the long run, his main hobby – photography – has replaced his high-ranking job.

Sergey Yastrzhembsky was born in Moscow in 1953.
He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations (MGIMO) majoring in international law.
1992-1996: Representative of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Slovakia.
1996-1997: Press Attache for the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin.
2000-2008: Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
2004-2008: Special Representative for the President for Issues of the Development of Relations with the European Union.
Yastrzhembsky told RT his favorite genre is aero photography. “Taking photos from helicopters or aircrafts is a challenge. You must take decisions very quickly.”
Yastrzhembsky says, he’s hooked. “I feel an adrenaline rush when I’m shooting from helicopters. But I can’t say that it’s dangerous because you can only make pictures when the weather is good.”
He’s traveled the world extensively but his most-loved destinations are Africa and Toscana.
Yastrzhembsky’s works are on display at the Ekaterina art gallery.
