One of Russia’s leading sculptors Zurab Tsereteli, famous for his passion for gigantomania, has created a giant hare five times bigger than the real thing for a Faberge museum in Germany.
The three-meter tall copper sculpture has been installed in the center of Baden-Baden, close to the city’s central square Leopoldplatz. As one of the biggest monuments in town, it has already become a landmark attracting crowds of grown-ups and children.
The sculpture of the hare standing on its hind legs can be found in the courtyard of the newly opened Faberge museum and, thanks to its size, is visible from the neighboring streets.
Tsereteli’s hare is a replica of the silver hare created by the legendary Russian jeweler Carl Faberge, but is 30 times bigger than the original.
Works by the Georgian-born artist can be found all over the world and range from three meters to over 100-meters, which is the average height of a 30-storey building. One of his most famous works is a monument to Peter the First, created in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy.
