April Fools’ Day, apart from being an international day of practical jokes, this year also marks the 200th birthday of Encyclopedia Britannica’s ‘Father of modern Russian realism’– Nikolay Gogol.
for a leftist media you promote the right wing ideology very well.

Yes, Gogol's (Hohol in Ukrainian) is still alive and celebrated because he needs to be read more and more for the world to finally see his true Ukrainian soul. It's amazing how Hohol can be taken for a Russian writer only because he lived under the grip of the Russian empire and was forced " to sell his own soul" to write in Russian in order to succeed as a writer. Most of his themes are of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture and traditions. He wrote about things that he naturally knew and loved. In "Dead souls" he shows what he thought of Russian tsarist society. The world needs to rediscover Hohol again through his Ukrainian soul, then, they will understand him even better. Halyna Hrushetska
