Gunter Sachs, the German multi-millionaire and ex-husband of Brigitte Bardot as well as a renowned collector and photographer, opens an exhibition of his collection in Moscow’s Tsaritsyno Park.
Sachs, who first introduced Andy Warhol to Europe, discovered Claudia Schiffer and taught rich and posh youth to spend vacations in Saint-Tropez, was well known for promoting glamorous lifestyles.
The collection is penetrated with the spirit of glamour. The Moscow exhibition includes archive photographs and films along with Sachs’ black-and-white photos-sketches of life in Saint-Tropez in 1960s. Most of them are being seen in Russia for the first time.
Ralph Missi, assistant to Gunter Sachs, says it was Sachs who invented the term “playboy”. “Initially it characterized a stylish man with good taste, who can enjoy life”, Missi says.
Gunter Sachs was fortunate to be born into a rich family and had enough opportunities to seek his place in life. He said he has always been interested in art but has “always kept a certain curiosity and tried to do something new”. In the end, this path brought him to photography.
A fan of women and nature, Gunter Sachs travels the world and transfers his passions and observations into professional photographs.
To better understand the personality of Gunter Sachs, the organizers of the show divided the exhibition space throughout 14 rooms. Each one represents a certain theme and has its own name. Among them are the New-York Hall with photographs of skyscrapers, or the Dark Hall where one can see specially lit photos. Two other halls are dedicated to Andy Warhol and Claudia Schiffer.
The exhibition “Gunter Sachs. The Photographer and Collector” occurs at the same time as the sixth international festival “Fashion and Style in Photography” and pre-opens the review, which begins in Moscow on March 27.
