One of Russia’s most popular social networks “V kontakte”, which bears a strong resemblance to “big brother” Facebook, has had a facelift. It’s adopted a new logo as part of plans to have a more global appeal and get users from overseas.

Vice President of “V Kontakte”, Ilya Perekopsky, says the company is now planning a move into Europe.

The letters V and K have become incorporated, looking curvy, trendy and bold.

According to Russia’s Marker daily, the change is not aimed at gaining more Russian users. “V Kontakte” is the third most popular internet resource in the country after Yandex and Mail.ru, with up to 30 million users daily.

The news is good, excellent for free information and for friendship, but unfortunately, a serious threat to these opportunities of VKontakte has been appeared just in time. The Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland has recently submitted a claim, according to which the Finnish courts could judge the prohibition to access to certain foreign internet forums. Russian "VKontakte" would be very obviously one of these forbidden sites, when we read more closely the argumentation of the Committee. This challenge is alarming, because the circles and contacts are very small in Finland, a small country.

Looks a lot like facebook but a lot less overwhelming considering the lack of ads, sponsored pages, etc. Would definitely give it a try
