A stone image of Lenin has been defaced in Pyatigorsk by unknown vandals

"The rock portrait of Vladimir Lenin, which was well seen from the funicular, was completely destroyed. The mayor is now discussing the restoration of the Soviet leader's image," said a representative from the city's culture administration.

The black and white image, which was completed in 1925, was covered by vandals in black paint. A swastika was also drawn on the forehead of Lenin.

Next to the image the vandals scrawled anti-Semitic remarks.

On Monday in St. Petersburg a 10-meter-high monument of Lenin was badly damaged by an explosive device, which created a massive hole at the base of the statue.
