Russia’s theaters are continuing their exchange of dancers, as the Mariinsky ballerina is leaving the troupe for the Bolshoi.
Evgenia Obraztsova desided to move on after her contract with the Mariinsky Ballet Company expired. Obraztsova danced in St. Petersburg’s main theatre since the beginning of her career in 2002.
Her name is still listed on the Mariinsky’s ballet repertoire, and she is expected to continue working there as an invited star.
“Obraztsova has many fans in St. Petersburg. We will be glad to see her on our stage,” the Mariinsky’s statement says.
The ballerina has already started rehearsing at Russia’s main theater.
Earlier, leading dancers of the Bolshoi Ballet Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev announced they’re leaving their legendary Alma Mater for the Mikhailovsky in search of greater freedom.
Over the past few years, the Mariinsky has scored fame as one of the most daring among Russia’s traditional theaters, experimenting in all mediums. So did the Mikhailovsky Theatre, which signed Spaniard Nacho Duato as its Artstic Director.
The Bolshoi on the contrary has always been seen as more traditional and conservative, and yet has always managed to retain its reputation as a leading light worldwide.

Osipova & Vasiliev DID go to the Mikhailovsky, NOT the Mariinsky. The reporter need to correct this article.
So many mistakes in this article!Obraztsova was not a Prima at the Mariinsky. Osipova and Vasiliev did go to the Mikhailovsky.
Also, the descriptions of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky (although subjective), hardly sound fitting.
