One of the world’s oldest auction houses, Sotheby’s, has put for sale works by contemporary Russian artists to support up-and-coming Russian musicians.

All the money raised from the auction will go to the “New Names” charity fund, headed by one of Russia’s leading pianists, Denis Matsuev and aimed at supporting young music talent.

Among the items put up for tender are pieces of furniture, painting, graphic art and toys. The peculiarity of works is that they have been created for children, specially for the Sotheby’s auction.

“Sots art for children” by Rostislav Lebedev

Among the works generating the biggest buzz are creations by Georgy Ostretsov and Rostislav Lebedev whose works are presented in the Tratyakov gallery, State Russian Museum, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts as well as in European galleries.

According to the organizers of the event, the beneficent mission of the auction allowed them to set low starting prices.

Deputy Chairman of board of Sotheby’s in Europe, Lord Mark Poltimor, is set to hold the auction at Moscow’s Heritage art-gallery, specialized in Russian émigré art of 20th century and in contemporary art.

One of the highlights of the evening on October, 8 will be a concert held prior to the auction.

The leading light of Russian piano school, Denis Matsuev, will perform together with promising scholar musicians from the “New Names” foundation.
