It’s not easy to get tickets to Russia’s major theatres. However some of them are taking steps to get closer to their audiences - through the internet. St. Petersburg’s Mikhailovsky theatre has launched online broadcasts of its shows.

The Sleeping Beauty ballet staged by the new Artistic director of the theatre Nacho Duato, was the first to be broadcast in Full HD.

“A live broadcast can never actually replace a visit to the theatre, yet the latest technology and internet give a unique chance to deliver the most experimental and creative theatre in Russia to old and new audiences,” says the theatre’s director Vladimir Kekhman.

The broadcasts will be adapted for any Internet speed, so that the quality of the image wouldn’t suffer.

The live broadcasts and recorded shows will be available on Mikhailovsky theatre’s website, as well as on websites of the partners of the project – ParaClassics and Rostelecom.
