If you’re likely to be on your own this Valentine’s Day, don’t worry! Just take a trip on the Moscow Metro – and you will get a Valentine’s message cooed to you, albeit over a loudspeaker.
The underground has been recording special greetings for travellers, not just for this romantic day, but for other special occasions too.
Starting this month, festive announcements will greet passengers on holidays and inform them about upcoming events and anniversaries.
Besides Valentine’s Day, February’s rather diverse highlights are the 148th anniversary of Moscow Zoo on February 12th, Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th, Transport Police Day on February 18th, and Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23rd.
The Metro’s press-service has not yet said whether the greetings will be played in the train cars, or in stations.

Byzantine bother: Artifacts back in German museum after decadesA Berlin museum is celebrating the return of dozens of Byzantine artifacts, which spent years in Soviet Russia after World War Two. Some date back as far as the 4th century – yet it is their recent history that reads like a real detective story. |

It must be a very peculiar calendar to list Valentine’s Day, and even Moscow Zoo day,on the same footing with the Defender of the Fatherland Day. What an insult to the memory of the untold millions who perished in the war. This article is either a sheer provocation or just in bad taste, to say the least.
