Secretive, unpredictable and sophisticated – the so-called “Partisan Museum” has opened its doors in the Russian capital featuring the major art exhibition, “The Gladiators”.

Rule number one: Don’t forget to find out the museum’s current address.

Painting by Sergey Kalinin
The Partisan Museum does not have a permanent address. Living up to its rebellious title, it will pop up spontaneously each time in a new place, in some of the most unexpected venues of the city. It could be just about anything non-glamorous, including a tram depot, a wharf, a construction site, a deserted cinema house or a former casino.

The setting is key for the Partisan Museum, as the “gypsy” art project could help in looking at art from a different, untraditional perspective.

The recently shut-down “Metropol” casino will host the very first exhibition of the Partisan Museum – “The Gladiators” – until December 6.

Sergey Kalinin’s monumental oil paintings featuring “fights without rules” are rich in emotion and realistic detail.

And it looks like the setting of the Partisan Museum and the unsentimental paintings are well matched.
