Pulsing, radiating the sun’s warmth, revealing Nature’s beauty and the soul’s search for happiness – this is reflected in the work of Louis Munoz, an artist from the Caribbean, whose exhibition has opened in Moscow.

The artist and sculptor Louis Munoz’s works have received widespread acclaim, not only in his homeland, the Dominican Republic, but also in France, Spain, the USA, Germany, Mexico and in Russia. The spectacular colors and abstract shapes open up the “universe” of the artist, reflecting his emotions, passion and everything that surrounds him.

Speaking after Munoz’s exhibition in Germany, German art historian Patritia Fernand-Ude said: “One of the phenomenal features of his works is that the one who’s learning is at the same time being studied. We peer at the world of the artist and we notice that he looks back at us.”

“First of all, it’s important to have the emotions, inspiration and passion to reflect all the surrounding beauty as an artist. It doesn’t matter if you are in jail, at home or in the mountains – to me the most important is the sun and the colors of the Caribbean,” Munoz says.

The artist created a number of works in Russia while living here with his family. He speaks of round images in his works – this refers to the ‘round’ form of Moscow city. He is at the centre of an alien world where he lives; that’s where he derives his emotions, reflecting the mood in his creations.

“My style is expressing the motion and the changes happening in cosmos, on our planet and in my life from day to day.”

Munoz sometimes creates series of works, dedicated to a certain theme. But the matter of a single moment means no less to the artist as he understands that his mission is to interpret life – a chain of moments full of impressions.

The exhibition opened as a part of the “Communication” project launched by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic. Opened by the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Russia, Mr Jorge Luis Perez Alvarado, the display is on at the Center of Latin American Culture “Simon Bolivar” through June 4.
