A 19-year-old Russian girl spent several months in hospital after a bloody car accident which turned her into a promising photographer.

It happened last summer during the Moscow film festival. Vera Uvarova was planning to attend a party in honor of Hollywood heartthrob Will Smith, whose comedy had premiered in the city, but Vera’s plans were interrupted out of the blue.

She was hit by a car and only came to her senses in intensive care.

Vera spent 90 days in hospital, with multiple fractures and only able to move her hands. As a result, she took up photography to see things around her and move on.

Vera Uvarova's self-portrait after the accident
“Before the accident I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. I studied, spent time with my friends and had fun. After the accident I realized that I was 19-years-old and my life could be cut off before I could even blink and I haven’t done anything important yet. Now I try to live life to the full!”

She also thinks that the accident helped her revaluate her attitude to life and has taught her to see things through rose-tinted glasses.

“I didn’t like Russia before the accident. I always wanted to move somewhere else, preferably in Europe where things were much better I thought. Then I realized that I was simply unable to appreciate the good things around me and I’ve opened up to some of them by means of photography.”

Vera took over three hundred pictures on her iPhone in hospital. Her works were recently on display at a Moscow art gallery, turning her into an aspiring photographer.
