An exhibition by underground Parisian-New-York legend of the past two decades, photographer, artist and publisher, Paul Steinitz, is ready to start in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

Many remarkable artists and designers of the 1980s are good friends of Steinitz. Among others he kept warm relationships with an artists, social activists, and designers, such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Stephen Sprouse and Willie Smith.

Paul Steinitz spent time with provocative, decadent neo-expressionist artists in well-known New York night clubs which are now in the past, as well as many of Steinitz’s friends. However the atmosphere of that time is reflected in their works, and this was his creative environment.

Steinitz comes to the Russian capital with his producer and friend Zak Kaghado who actively worked with the artist in Paris, and now has organized his exhibition in Moscow. Various works from his black-and-white series, and color portraits shot in Paris and New York on large-format film will be displayed within the expo.

The artist has, through the years, developed his own style. He is using the technology of manual platinum print, which creates impressive effects and meets the demands of Paul Steinitz’s aesthetics. Influenced by Hollywood glamour and expressionist cinema he accuses money, power and sexuality of lies and fakery.

Within the Moscow exhibition, entitled “God Only Knows Why My Trip Never Ended” the rising star of photography, Ja'bagh Kaghado, will presents his works with Paul Steinitz.

This young artist is not new to Moscow’s art lovers – having held a tremendously successful personal exhibition in August, 2008 at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

In 2009 Ja'bagh Kaghado has carried out a set of projects, including “The Obsession of …” in Moscow’s center of modern art, and М’ARS within the “Fashion and style in photography 2009” festival. In Moscow Ja'bagh Kaghado will also present his new Parisian series “Faces In The Shadow”.

The Paul Steinitz and Ja'bagh Kaghado exhibition opens on August 11 in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in Ermolaevsky lane. On August 13 at 19.00 both photographers will give a master-class, speaking about the creative vision of a photographer and style development.
