Pieces of jewelry, some of which belonged to the Romanov royal family and are worth nearly $3 million, have been discovered in Sweden.
The objects were found at the Swedish Foreign Ministry depository after being kept there for 91 years. The findings were made during the offices moving.
It’s believed that some of the items belonged to Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna and have been given back to members of the Romanov family.
Back in 1918, when Sweden broke off diplomatic relations with the Russian revolutionary government, the collection was deposited at the Swedish Legation.
According to Ria Novosti, there are some 60 cigarette boxes, cufflinks and Faberge items among the objects found. Some of them are set to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s London auction in autumn.
