Russia’s Mariinsky Theater troupe comes to the main stage of London’s Covent Garden with Wagner’s monumental four-opera cycle and a collection of their best ballets.

On July 29 “The Ring of the Nibelung”, composed by Richard Wagner, starts running in Covent Garden as the highlight of the Mariinsky’s London tour. For the first time, the cream of London’s demanding theatre audience will get a chance to evaluate this most ambitious project of the celebrated Russian musical theatre.

Earlier this major opera cycle toured almost all continents, and proved the vibrancy of the Russian opera, unveiling new names of the Mariinsky troupe singers.

In London, the Mariinsky Theater will present a new production of “The Ring” created by an international crew of directors, according to Valery Gergiev and Georgy Tsypin’s original concept.

Also, on August 3, the Covent Garden stage will welcome the Mariinsky Theater’s best ballets. “Swan Lake”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Sleeping Beauty” and George Balanchine’s ballets “Serenade”, “Symphony in C,” and “Rubies” will be staged here.

The leading parties will be performed not only by eminent actors, but also young dancers, most of whom are first-timers on the London stage.

The Mariinsky Theater traditionally gives summer performances in Covent Garden, and was the first guest troupe invited to perform on the theater’s stage after its reconstruction in 2001.

The Mariinsky’s opera and ballets will be performed through to August 15 at London’s Covent Garden. Don’t miss them!
