Art sales are bringing in less money than expected even at such prestigious auctions as Sotheby's. As the financial crisis bites, buyers are cautious about investing in art. Collectors say prices are at a two-year low, and still have further to fall.
Sotheby's auction house has opened its preview exhibition entirely devoted to Russian contemporary art in Moscow. The top lots at the upcoming auction include more than 40 paintings, photo collages and sculptures, with a value estimated at more than $US 5
This weekend, the “Hermitage Garden” in Moscow turns into ‘goode olde England’, while the British capital is swept up with Russian art.
Nowadays it is becoming more and more prestigious to own a painting by a Russian artist. As one of the oldest auction houses in the world, Christie’s has held Russian sales for several decades.
One of Moscow’s oldest and most important privately-owned art galleries, “Regina”, will soon have a twin sister in the UK, due on April 30.
