(2.2Mb) embed videoRussian President Dmitry Medvedev’s photo of a Siberian town has been sold for $US 1.7 million at a fundraising auction in Saint Petersburg, making it the fourth most expensive photograph in the world.
Dmitry Medvedev, an enthusiastic photographer, took the black and white shot of the Tobolsk town ancient fortress (Kremlin) during a helicopter trip in Siberia.
It sold at a charity auction in Saint Petersburg, which last year paid $US 1.1 million for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s painting of a winter scene.
Medvedev’s picture was purchased by Mikhail Zingarevich, a board member at Ilim Group. Zingarevich said he wants to hang the 69-by-96-centimetre (27-by-38-inch) picture in his office.
The auction traditionally features art by different Russian celebrities and politicians. This year the proceeds will go to a children’s hospital, alcohol rehabilitation center and WWII veterans.

Great photograph, and congratulations to the president for such a high sale price. Congratulations to the organizers of another successful fund raiser, too. It surpassed last year's auction.
